Air India (AI) has turned down Nashik Inc's request to start air services from the city, citing lack of spare capacity as the reason.
Admitting that Nashik has a "tremendous potential of a fast growing industrial city and is known to be a "religious centre" in the country, AI general manager (marketing) Rajneesh Bagga said: "Currently, Air India does not have the spare capacity to undertake additional services".
In a letter to the Nashik Industries & Manufacturers' Association (Nima), the senior AI official said:
"The development of available resources of Air India in terms of aircraft and crew for the winter schedule from October 30, 2016 to March 25, 2017 has already been finalised and implemented. At this time, it is not possible for Air India to consider the feasibility of commencement of flights from Nashik."
Bagga, however, said AI, along with its subsidiary, Alliance Air, was committed to providing air connectivity to and from cities "having market potential for a commercially viable operation".
