A new terminal at India's Gorakhpur airport was opened this week, with the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announcing that air services to Mumbai Int'l and Kathmandu, Nepal will start "soon". The minister, quoted in the Hindustan Times, did not elaborate on when the services would start, or who would run them.
Gorakhpur, located in India's north, approximately 100 kilometres from the border of Nepal, is currently served by SpiceJet , flying to Delhi Int'l and Kolkata Int'l, and Alliance Air (India), flying to Delhi. The new terminal increases the airport's capacity to 100 passengers.
The Chief Minister added that the state government's priority is to provide connections for other cities in the region, such as Allahabad, Bareilly, Kanpur, Jhansi and Faizabad.
