Thiruvananthapuram: Airport Authority of India (AAI) is all set to introduce the first international courier facility from Trivandrum International Airport next year. The international standard facility is likely to start functioning from January.
The international courier will be managed by AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Ltd (AAICLAS), a subsidiary of AAI.
AAI will utilise a building acquired from Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Ltd (KSIE) at Chackai side of the airport.
The building was constructed by KSIE on airport land for the cargo service, which AAI bought at Rs 1.1 crore. Also, an X-ray machine bought by Trivandrum International Airport, which has been lying idle for past few weeks, will be used for the facility.
AAICLAS will outsource the courier service to an agency and manage the administration of international courier. AAI is in the process of preparing tender for the work. The airport authority expects improvement in aeronautical revenue through the courier facility.
