Mumbai: Low fare carrier SpiceJet has said it crossed Jet Airways in
market share figures to become India's number 2 carrier--a historical
first--in July.
In a release, the carrier said it controlled 20.9% of the market in July compared to 19% a month earlier. Jet Airways and JetLite's share was at 19.6%, the same as the previous month.
"Our increase in loads and share is the result of our new network, improved branding and product, and most importantly, our dynamic pricing and revenue management approach where we believe flying empty seats, which is the ultimate perishable commodity, is a waste especially for budget airlines, " said Sanjiv Kapoor, Chief Operating Officer (COO), SpiceJet.
Market leader IndiGo ceded lost some of the market by getting a 30.7% share as compared in July, compared to a 31.7% in June, according to figures from the airline.
