July has been a forgettable month for all domestic airlines except SpiceJet.
According to DGCA data, only SpiceJet saw an increase in number of passengers carried and consequently its market share among established airlines last month.
Air Costa and AirAsia India were the other two exceptions - everyone else struggled to attract passengers.
SpiceJet's market share was almost 21% and it cornered a fifth of the domestic aviation market in July.
Though IndiGo remained the clear market leader with almost 31% or close to a third of the market, Jet Airways and JetLite together managed to hold on to just about 20% of the market - something Jet alone commanded till January this year. So the steepest market share decline has been seen for Jet Airways, which tumbled from 19.9% in January to just 15.7% in July.
Perhaps Jet's recent decision to shut down the LCC offering and get back to the full service model will help it claw back market share as confusion over the product recedes.
GoAir, which had celebrated crossing the 10% market share mark in June, fell back to 9.2 and Air India settled at 18%.
Aircraft occupancies were also quite low in July. While SpiceJet managed to fill almost 8 in 10 seats, IndiGo could not fill even 7 in 10.
Jet Airways and JetLite saw every third seat empty on their aircraft while Air India's occupancy was close to Go Air's at almost 70%.
