Chennai: : Following the concern caused to the City Police by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) landing near a sun bathing woman foreign national, the city police, in co-ordination with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), are in the process of framing guidelines for use of UAVs in civil airspace.
The City Police Commissioner, S George, has drafted a charter in this regard and will soon convene a meeting with DGCA officials and deliberate on the possible security and aviation threats that arise from UAVs.
The Commissioner made it known that the technical wing of the city police will prepare a list of the different types of UAVs being sold and their technical specifications, including payloads each UAV can carry, their maximum duration in flight, their maximum altitude and their respective ranges at which each can be remotely controlled.
