Mangaluru: Officers of Customs seized 424 packets, each weighing 25-grams of Iranian Saffron, totally weighing 10.60-kgs that was concealed in the baggage of a passenger at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) at Kenjar near here on Thursday. The saffron is valued at Rs 12.72-lakh.
The accused is Mohammad Riyaz, resident of Mogral Puttur in Kasargod of Kerala. Mohammad arrived at MIA by Air India Express flight IX 814 from Dubai at 8am. The operation was conducted under the supervision of N Udayashankaran, assistant commissioner of customers, MIA. Further investigation is under progress under the guidance of D Purushotham, commissioner of customs.
