MADC to retender Mihan power purchase bid

Nagpur: Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has been forced to consider retendering of power purchase bid for Mihan as only one supplier showed interest in the tender. The bids were floated early this month. Meanwhile, the final order issued by Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has made it clear that Mihan power will be close to Rs 5 per unit rather than Rs 4.38 per unit.

At present, Mihan is being supplied electricity from power exchanges purchased on a day-ahead basis. MADC feels that this can't be a solution in the long term. "Power has to be purchased from a generator through a proper power purchase agreement (PPA). We plan to purchase on short term basis till June and on long term basis after that," managing director Tanaji Satre told TOI. He added that until the short-term PPA was signed MADC would continue to buy power from exchanges.

The MERC order has brought several facts to light. Even though Abhijeet Group has filed a petition seeking 57 paise per unit as transmission charges, MERC has asked it to file a separate petition. As MADC is not paying the charges at present, it has been asked to tell the Commission how it plans to pay the accumulated amount.
