400 digital eyes, choppers secure venue

Bengaluru: Six months of preparations, a 60-page standard operating procedure (SOP), 400 digital eyes and several security agencies on ground have kept the Yelahanka Air Force Station safe for the VVIPs and hoi polloi flocking to the Aero India, besides the aircraft and critical systems here.
As business days ended, and the first day of all-crowd air show started on Saturday , STOI visited the Operations Control Centre (OCC), mainstay of security at the show.

Every corner of the IAF Station is being watched. There are 400 cameras, 350 of which are manned by a 25-member specialized team at the OCC. The remaining 50 fitted near the gates and periphery walls are under the control of the Central In dustrial Security Force (CISF).

As many as 14 cameras with pantilt-zoom (PTZ) features have been set up strategic and known areas of incidents as they allow the operators to narrow down on suspicious activity. All the footage can be backed up for 10 days. "We started the preparations early (6 months ago) as we had to have contingency plans for a series of emergencies, besides planning coordination nuances, and routine POA (Plan of Action)," an official said.
Among the anticipated emer gencies are air crash, stampede, hoax-call creating panic, hangar collapse and fire.
