Kolhapur Airport Awaits Political Push For Its Commencement

Kolhapur: Work on Kolhapur airport has failed to take off even after gaining momentum last year following visits by Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Not only the facility is lying defunct, it has not been touched by any domestic flyer and Supreme Aviation Company, which was once in the picture with talks of a service from Kolhapur, Mumbai and New Delhi, has also backed out from the deal.

One of the main reasons for the airport not getting fully operational might be lack of pressure from the industry. The airport was so important for Kolhapur that it was one of the key issues during the Lok Sabha campaign. Dhananjay Mahadik, who is now an MP, had taken efforts to commence the airport, but somehow clearance from the director general of civil aviation (DGCI) failed to come.
