New Delhi: Air India’s operations will now be monitored on a daily basis by the Ministry of Civil Aviation as the Centre makes another attempt to ensure that more of its flights leave and arrive on scheduled times.
Senior Government officials told BusinessLine that apart from monitoring AI’s on time performance (OTP), airports from which flights are regularly delayed will be asked to give the reasons for the delays.
They will also be asked to fix the problem in a time bound manner. On time performance is measured by the number of flights operating on time as a percentage of the total number of flights operated on any particular sector.
Air India will also be asked to take a closer look at the pick-up and drop system for its crew as crew members as this is a key factor in ensuring that flight operations are not delayed.
The move comes days after Secretary Civil Aviation V Somasundaran issued an order threatening to deduct payment of employees reporting late to work resulting in delays in flight operations.
