Margao: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Monday questioned the decision of the airports authority of India (AAI) to bid for the proposed Mopa airport, and said that the move exposed the insincerity of ex-chief minister Manohar Parrikar's earlier assertions.
Referring to reports in a section of the national media that the AAI was likely to form a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to bid for the 3,000 crore project, Sardesai said, "from this development, it is obvious that all the bidders have 'privately' indicated to the government that the Mopa airport is not commercially viable and that they are not interested in the bidding."
"It appears that the central government has forced the AAI to take this step to save face and to ensure that the Mopa airport is bulldozed against the wishes of the Goan people and by neglecting environmental and safety concerns. The ex-chief minister Manohar Parrikar had, time and again, stated that no public money would be involved in setting up the project. It is now proved that as usual Parrikar was lying," Sardesai said, while addressing media persons.
