Freya Paterson, Nikata Salmon and Danielle Huges who walk on aircraft wings high up in the air keep spectators at Aero India on cloud nine. The three women who are part of the world's only aerobatic formation wing-walking team, Breitling Wingwalkers, are treasuring every moment of their Indian adventure.
The UK-based girls, who have been wing-walking for varying periods ranging from 2 to 9 seasons, say that though getting on the wing at first is difficult, it gets better and they are only anxious about giving it their best so that that spectators enjoy it.During a wing-walking routine, the team performs a sequence of acrobatic manoeuvres while strapped to the top wings of a Boeing Stearman biplane.
The team which does over 80 shows a year, undergoes a rigorous training of about a month, with their team of pilots, before the beginning of every season, where they plan and choreograph their stunts.
They say that their relationship with their pilots is a close one. Martyn Carrington, one of the pilots, who passed all of his flying tests by the time he was 16, says, "The ladies are in charge and we (pilots) do as we are told."
