Trichy: Five customs officers and a passenger who were arrested by officials of the anti-corruption branch (ACB) of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Chennai at the Trichy International Airport following a raid were remanded in judicial custody by a CBI special court in Madurai late on Friday night.
Acting on reliable information, CBI officials in plainclothes carried out surprise checks at the arrival hall of the Trichy International Airport on the intervening night of March 5 and March 6. The officials seized unauthorised cash and bribe amounts to the tune of Rs 2.94 lakh from there.
Further investigations revealed that five customs officials - two superintendents Sivaswamy and Ravikumar, three inspectors Dinesh Prajapati, Suresh Kumar, Avijit Chakraborthy had been accepting bribes and not levying requisite duty for dutiable goods being brought by passengers from various countries through the airport.
