Man held with gold at airport

Ahmedabad: The Air Intelligence Unit of the customs department held a Mumbai-based man at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport for smuggling 1.05 kg gold, worth Rs 27.37 lakh, late on Monday night. Patni Ghulam Hussain had arrived from Dubai by a SpiceJet flight and gold bars were concealed in his rectum.


"He was detained after his movement was found to be suspicious. During checking, nine gold bars were recovered from his rectum," said a customs official.
According to sources, Hussain was smuggling the yellow metal for the first time.
