Chennai: The stinging presence of mosquitoes has been making a rather painful point in and around the airport over the past three weeks — pushing passengers to either stand near air-condition vents so that the air circulation keeps them at bay, or go on swatting sprees.
“There aren’t too many mosquitoes near the gates that you enter the airport (terminal) through, but once you get in line for security or even find a seat in the waiting area, they come for you,” complained R Vinoth Kumar, a software professional working with a start-up, and shuttles between Chennai and Hyderabad.
The sudden spurt in mosquitoes, especially during the early mornings and later in the evenings, has pushed passengers to unleash a string of complaints. “I once told the duty manager that there was a swarm of mosquitoes near gates H1 and H2, but he explained that it was because of the openings in the roof. There are sunlights in Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai airports but I’ve not been bitten there before. It’s quite a bother,” said Swarnalatha Ganesan, who does a lot of flying domestically.
