VIPs at Chennai airport keep common man at bay

Chennai: All passengers coming out of the domestic arrival gate at Chennai airport are not 'equal'.

For more than a year, 'ordinary' passengers have not been able to board taxis or cars on the lane in front of the arrival section. The sprawling lane is reserved for "key" government functionaries and those connected to them.
Even former ministers and their family members and film personalities are VIPs. On the occasions that no VIPs arrive, the lane remains unused.

Recently, M Karunanidhi's grandson and film actor Udhayanidhi Stalin and music director Harris Jayaraj were escorted into their Hummers on the lane, parked on the spot earmarked for the differently-abled. "While VIP vehicles wait under the shade, we are left to suffer in the heat . What's worse, we pay 135 parking fee," said an annoyed passenger.
