Air India new uniform: Crew disapproves, starts signature campaign

New Delhi: If things go as per plans then from April 14, 2015 Air India crew will appear in a new avatar - in a new uniform. While the male crew will now be seen in blue trouser, blue pin stripe shirt, red tie and blue jacket, the female crew will have western dress in addition to the saris. AI has taken the services of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to design the new uniform.
The crew will have to get this done on their own. And this has left the crew agitated. A crew from Mumbai on condition of anonymity said, "I am shocked. This has never happened before. Earlier tailors were designated, measurements were taken. But now scene has changed for the worse. There is no AI logo in the jacket and with blue trouser and red tie I look like any other passenger. There is no authority." "They are trying to save money but what have they done. The new dress is a copy of JET Airways. This has been in the making for three years and now we have to stitch it ourselves!" added another crew member. The female crew members have their own concerns. "For a 9-day stint how can I manage with just 2 saris? Earlier they planned to go with just saris then later wanted the western outfit as well and just when we got them stitched they talk about specifications to be made in the dress. It is sheer harassment for us" says one female crew member. A majority of crew members that Headlines Today spoke to expressed their disappointment at the new uniform launch. The Crew fraternity has not just expressed its disappointment but has also started a signature campaign disapproving the uniform. Headlines Today is in the exclusive possession of a letter written by crew members to the management. 04/04/15 Pankaj Upadhyay/India TodayAir India new uniform
