Two men held with gold worth Rs 86 lakh hidden under aircraft seat

Ahmedabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs on Thursday held two men for smuggling 3.2 kg gold worth Rs 86.43 lakh at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport. In a new modus operandi being used by smugglers, the said gold bars were hidden under the seat of SpiceJet Flight SG-016 which had arrived from Dubai late night on Wednesday.
"The same flight was to go to Chennai converting into the domestic flight SG-501 and two passengers Parvez Alam and Rafeeq Ahmad managed to take the gold from beneath the seat where it was hidden during international flight," said Customs official. The SpiceJet employees informed Customs about the suspicious action of the passengers. "Our team rushed to the domestic airport and recovered the gold from the passenger boarded in SG-501 domestic flight," added Customs official. 03/04/15 Piyush Mishra/Times of India
