Mumbai: After a series of hoax calls and sightings of parachute-like flying objects over the past three weeks, a number of air security measures have been put in place in preparation for Republic Day on Tuesday.
"For now, no airport entry passes are being issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security," said a source.
Other than the regular security arrangements, random checks are being carried out by airline and CISF security agencies, the source said and added that passengers could have a stress-free boarding if they arrive early for their flights. After security was beefed up in airports across the country, following the Pathankot attacks, two airlines—Air India and Indigo—had issued instructions to their passengers asking them to report early due to congestion in the security hold area.
Other than hoax calls about bomb threats made by a mentally unstable man on Thursday and Friday, Mumbai airport received a call from an unidentified caller on Saturday. The caller, who spoke in Hindi, warned about a bomb blast at the airport before February 2. Earlier in the week, Mumbai police and the ATS had launched investigations into paraglider-like flying objects were sighted on two separate occasions by two different people.
