Smugglers leave behind gold in toilets of aeroplane

Mumbai:  Smugglers recently left behind 6 kg of gold worth Rs 1.5 crore concealed in the toilets of an aeroplane after having arrived in the city from Dubai.

From the city, the flight and the gold travelled to Kozhikode and then on to Delhi, from where it was back to Kozhikode and then the city, where Customs officers finally searched the aircraft on specific information and recovered the contraband.

From the city, the flight was supposed to again fly out of the country.
Customs officials suspect the involvement of insiders and questioned airline employees. Commissioner of Customs at the airport A P S Suri said it was after many years that a recovery of gold had been made from a departing aircraft. "We suspect that the gold was concealed in Dubai," he said.
