Vistara joins peers to lobby for easier flying credit rules

New Delhi: The aviation ministry’s plan to allow start-up carriers to fly abroad by earning ‘domestic flying credits’ has hit turbulence.

After established carriers like IndiGo and Jet Airways raised red flag over diluting the present rule, Tata-SIA joint venture Vistara has also sought to simplify the formula to help it fly internationally in its first year of operation.

“Vistara has written to us and given their input. They have plans to operate wide-body aircraft on foreign routes and the proposed credit formula does not suit them,” a ministry official said, adding that consultation process was now almost complete on the issue and the policy would be announced shortly.

According to industry sources, Vistara is lobbying for replacing the present 5/20 rule on overseas flying with 1/5.
