The Mumbai police on Tuesday woke up to a shocking call after a sexagenarian flier contacted the police control room to say that “there is a hijack-like situation” at the international airport.
A short-lived probe, however, revealed that the ominous call was only “an expression” shared by the aggrieved passenger over his delayed Air India flight.
The London-Ahmedabad via Mumbai AI-130 flight, which operates using a Dreamliner aircraft got delayed by over three hours over some “administrative issues”, airport officials claimed.
The aircraft, that is believed to have landed in Mumbai from London around 4 am , took off with passengers to Ahmedabad only at about 7.15 am, though the official departure time given to the passengers was 5.30 am, a senior police officer attached with the Sahar police pointed out. “The Mumbai police control room received a phone call from a flier, who was identified as Kothari (60), a resident of Vile Parle. He had dialed the police control room number 100 around 8 am. The call was made from the premises of the airport terminal building. His call to the control room was brief and teams were sent to check the flight soon,” said a senior police officer. Following the short call made by Kothari, the control room contacted the concerned police station which further relayed the information to the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) authorities.
