AirAsia India will give new dimension to Aviation: Ratan

New Delhi: Tata group chairman emeritus Ratan Tata and AirAsia Group chief Tony Fernandes met several ministers including Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh at his residence on Tuesday, regarding their application for the launch of the new low-cost airline.
Post their meeting with the minister, Fernandes tweeted that it was a positive meeting. “Excellent meeting with Minister of Aviation Mr Ajit Singh. He is very very keen to increase connectivity. Aviation is for the common man,” he tweeted. Tata and Fernandes briefed the minister about the latest appointments and other developments at the proposed airline.
AirAsia holds 49 per cent stake in the proposed carrier while Tata Group holds a 30 per cent and Telestra Tradeplace has 21 per cent stake.
“We came to apprise the Minister about the developments that have taken place (since FIPB cleared their proposal) and our visit to Chennai (headquarters of the proposed airline),” Fernandes told reporters after a  meeting with Singh. Fernandes was accompanied by the new AirAsia India CEO Mittu Chandilya.
