Mumbai: Low cost carrier AirAsia India will have about 7-8% of the total Indian LCC capacity in the end of the first year of its operations, making it a force to reckon with in the Indian skies.
The company yesterday received permission to import 10 A-320 aircraft in the first year of its operation as part of its plan to launch domestic services which is slated sometimes in February next years.
Compared to its competitors the Malaysian carrier which has got into a joint venture with the Tatas will have more aircraft in the first year than most of its competitors. AirAsia's capacity share is also based on the premise that competing airlines will utlise their entire new capacity due to new planes in the domestic skies which is highly unlikely.
Currently the largest LCC in the country IndiGo has a capacity to ferry 60,000 passengers a day. AirAsia, aviation experts say, would be able to fly 11,000 passengers every day by the end of the first year.
