More squalls likely in Delhi till June 15, Met cautions airlines

New Delhi: Those flying in and out of Delhi over the next fortnight are in for turbulent times. The Meteorological office at IGI airport has issued an advisory to all airlines asking them to check the weather forecast before Delhi-bound flights take off till June 15.

"The conditions in and around the capital are such that there may few storms over the next week. Strong storms are expected over between June 7 and 15, however, none will be as strong as last Friday's storm," said R K Jenamani, director, IGIA Met.


On Sunday night, IGI was hit by a sudden storm around 9.30pm. Two flights-A Delhi-bound Jet Airways flight (9W 309) and an Air India flight from Hong Kong (AI 317)-had to be diverted. "Jet Airways' flight from Mumbai to Delhi was diverted due to bad weather and was terminated at Lucknow. Passengers were accommodated at a hotel and flown to Delhi on Monday," said a Jet Airways spokesperson. The Air India flight was diverted to Amritsar and passengers were flown to Delhi in the early hours of Monday.
