Pune: If your bag seems lighter on arrival than it was when you checked it in at the airport, be on guard.
Travel company officials in the city point to a spurt in cases of valuables getting stolen from people's check-in luggage while travelling by air and especially on their return from international destinations.
In a recent case, two of 40 Pune-based students returning from the US to the Mumbai international airport discovered that valuables worth Rs 24,000 had been stolen from their luggage. Airline authorities, however, refused to take responsibility saying that the discovery of the theft was made upon leaving the airport.
In another case, a trip to the US through a city-based travel company turned sour for a few passengers when they discovered, upon return, that their bags had been stripped of valuables.
