New Delhi: Heating up the fare wars in the lost-cost aviation space, SpiceJetBSE 3.73 % on Tuesday announced a monsoon scheme starting from Rs 1,999. The fares were announced for flights between south Indian cities, expected to the stronghold for AirAsia.
Valid for travel between July 11 and September 30, the tickets can be booked between 10th and 12th June for travel to eight cities-- Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mysore and Vishakhapatnam.
SpiceJet's fares may help it to nibble marketshare away from AirAsia which will start flights on Thursday. The Indian venture of the Malaysian carrier is expected to expand fast, adding one aircraft to its fleet every month.
Most of SpiceJet's fares have been quietly matched by its rivals IndiGo and Go Air. Despite being the first mover, SpiceJet doesnt always get the advantage of more traffic.
