Airports at Bhopal, Indore and Raipur could soon be declared international airports

The Minister of State for Civil Aviation, GM Siddeswara informed the Lok Sabha today that presently the Government is considering the proposals to declare Bhopal, Indore and Raipur airports as international airports.

The upgradation of an airport as international airport depends upon various factors like traffic potential, demand from airlines for operation of international flights and presence of facilities like a runway length of  9000 feet to cater to medium capacity long-range aircraft or equivalent type of aircraft, ground lighting facilities, Instrument Landing System for operation of aircraft at night and availability of Customs, Immigration, Health and Animal and Plant Quarantine services.
