Mumbai: The Jet Airways' decision to make the in-flight crew clean up
the cabin has not gone down well with the employees. On June 23, the
airlines had asked its crew to clean up during transit halts so that the
preparation time for the next flight could be minimised.
Other low-cost airlines such as Indigo and Air Asia have already laid down rules that require crew to ensure that the cabin is left presentable, so that the next set of crew is not delayed.
Among other things, Jet Airways has asked the crew to collect all used blankets, pillows and newspapers at metro airports such as Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Bangalore.
According to the circular approved by senior general manager Ajit Bhagchandani, at the non-metro airports, the crew will also have to replace stained or crumpled headrest covers along with clearing seat pockets, dusting seat cushions and ensuring that seat belts are kept crossed across the last four rows of seats.
"We have been asked to collect all used blankets and place them on the first row of economy section in metro cities. We must also ensure that all air vents are open and that the regular cleaning staffers do their work efficiently. If it is the terminating flight of the day, crew must also collect all used and unused newspapers and secure them in a bag," a crew member said.
