Mumbai: Judging how good or bad an airport terminal is happens to be a
complicated affair. There are numerous parameters to contend with; like,
the time it takes for the first and last bags to reach the conveyor
belt after the aircraft has docked in the parking bay. At Mumbai
airport, for domestic flights, the first bag arrives in 10 minutes and
the last in 30. For international flights, it is 15 and 40 minutes.
These and other details about how the airport measures itself and how
sustainable it finds its operations to be were released recently in a
report prepared by GVK, the company that operates the airport.
The Mumbai airport, which is used by five domestic passenger airlines and 42 international ones, apart from one domestic freighter airline and 15 international freighters, was judged by the Airports Council International in 2013 as the fifth best in the world in the 25-40 million passengers per annum category, said the report.
