New Delhi: The Delhi government is mulling a proposal to provide a
direct link between Lutyens Delhi and the Indira Gandhi International
Airport (IGIA). This proposal is being considered keeping in mind the
increasing traffic volume on the route over the years.
“A lot of traffic from the VIP area moves towards the airport and vice-versa, leading to nasty traffic snarls on several occasions. There is a need to provide a direct connectivity from Lutyens Delhi to the airport. Since this area comes under the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Council, their consent will have to be sought before we go ahead with the proposal. An in-principle approval will be sought from all agencies before pursuing it further,” a source said.
According to officials, VIPs travelling to the airport from Lutyens Delhi usually take the already congested Rao Tula Ram Marg or pass through Dhaula Kuan, leading to traffic jams in Delhi.
