AirAsia chief Tony Fernandes hit out at IndiGo for acting like a bully
and stopping his airline in India, but curiously enough it was
SpiceJet's chief who took to Twitter to slam its rival low cost airline
on Friday without any obvious provocation.
Sanjiv Kapoor, COO, SpiceJet took to Twitter to take the fight to Fernandes and tweeted out saying that though AirAsia claims full planes, the load is below 70.
In an interview to Economic Times, published today, Fernandes had lashed out against Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA), a grouping of domestic airlines, for creating obstacles for AirAsia's India plans.
"IndiGo and the Federation of Indian Airlines have been trying to squeeze us out. I have never seen competitors like these. They pushed me the wrong way," he said.
AirAsia has been kept out of the FIA, a joint forum of Indian carriers, despite applying for membership twice. The FIA is a joint forum of Indian carriers Air India, Jet Airways, IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir. In the interview, Fernandes said that the group allegedly tried to persuade the civil aviation ministry not to invite AirAsia and Vistara for a consultative meeting.
