Vistara launch date likely to get pushed

New Delhi: Tata-Singapore Airlines' joint venture Vistara launch date may get pushed and the airline may only be able to take to skies by end of next month as it is awaiting regulatory clearances from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

According to industry sources, Vistara was looking at commencing operations on October 15 to commemorate J R D Tata's flight from Karachi to Mumbai on the same date in 1932.

J R D Tata's flight carrying mail between the two cities was the first by an Indian company and it opened the air link to peninsular India.

However, sources in DGCA informed the approvals may take some time as the airline is yet to import its first aircraft for proving flights.

A senior official in DGCA said, "They (Vistara) may be able to launch only around the festive season (Diwali) given that some regulatory processes are yet underway."
