Chennai: A 17-day-old infant, Murali Basak, from Assam, with a life threatening nerve disorder, stopped breathing and was declared dead as soon as the parents with the baby stepped off the flight.
In a bid to try and save the child, the parents had sent the scans and reports to the neurology team at a private multispecialty hospital here.
The Chennai neurology team agreed to a life-saving surgery on the baby.
“The parents immediately took a flight on Sunday from Guwahati to Kolkata and then to Chennai and were en route here, hoping for the best,” said an airport source.
The baby was stable for almost the entire two and a half hour journey, but 10 minutes before landing in Chennai, the little one’s breath became laboured.
