Chennai: The Global Investors' Meet is only two months away, and the state is worried about the first impression the visitors may get at the airport. Delegates from Japan, South Korea, the USA, the UK, France and Germany are expected to take part in the meet on May 23 and 24.
Sources said that senior officials of the government held a meeting with airport officials, customs, CISF, immigration and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) last Friday to take stock of the state of affairs at the airport. And they were not amused with what found.
A government official said the meeting discussed that the international arrival terminal needs some urgent facelift. "It is going to be the first point of contact for foreign delegates. As the old building is not in a good shape and the new terminal's arrival hall is lying unused, the state government is worried about the image the guests will be getting when they land at the airport," he said.
