AI CMD seeks extension for finance head

New Delhi: Air India CMD Rohit Nandan has asked the government to give a year's extension to the airline's finance person S Venkat. Nandan himself is set to become secretary and move out this summer.

Venkat, who was director finance and has now been promoted as joint MD, is going to retire this October.
The government is currently holding interviews to select a director finance. Nandan has reportedly told the government that with a new CMD and director finance, it is imperative that Venkat be given an extension for at least a year so that the airline can continue on its revival path.

"Else, there is going to be severe turbulence. For the first time in several years, AI had a clean and effective management team in Nandan, Syed Nasir Ali (who was joint MD and is now back in his parent income tax cadre) and Venkat. Will all three gone at once, it is going to be very difficult for AI unless Venkat is given an extension," said an official.
