Mumbai: A boeing 777-300 landed at Nagpur's Sonegaon airport for the first time on Wednesday, ahead of the inauguration of a Boeing maintenance and repair facility slated to start functioning in the city next month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the unit.
Tanaji Satre, managing director, Maharashtra Airport Development Company said: "This project has been delayed for years. On Wednesday, I boarded the Boeing 777 with other Air India officers at around 11 am, landing at noon. We were successful in accommodating the wide-bodied aircraft inside the maintenance facility.''
Wednesday's feat meant that the Maharashtra Airport Development Company had to restrict public access to Shivangaon, the area adjoining the airport, for 30 minutes.
