The civil aviation ministry on Friday decided not to reopen the once-thriving Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for short-haul flights citing technical reasons. The airport has been closed since 2008 after the Kempegowda International Airport became operational.
Rekindling HAL's long-pending proposal for re-starting operations, defence minister Manohar Parikkar had written to the civil aviation ministry earlier this year seeking his intervention to resolve the issue. However, civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju has rejected the offer.
