AAI awards contract to extend airport runway

Surat: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has awarded the contract to extend the runway at Surat airport to a Mumbai-based agency. The work is likely to start in the second week of August.

The AAI had invited tender applications for upgrading and extension of the runway from the existing 2,250 metre to 2,905 metre two months ago. The financial bids were opened on May 27 and the work was awarded to Relcon Infra Project Limited for Rs 50.62 crore.

The 655-metre runway extension work and the recarpeting of the existing 2,250 metre of runway are expected to be completed before the December 2016 deadline.
