Ahmedabad: A man booked a ticket to Mumbai only to stay 'grounded' with his girlfriend. This amusing love story unfolded in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport and was the talking point among other fliers. The man, around 28 years of age, bought an Air India flight ticket to Mumbai so that he could enter the boarding lounge and spend three hours with his girlfriend who was flying to Dubai.
The incident took place on Saturday night. The love-struck gentleman had with him an Ahmedabad-Mumbai Air India ticket for the 4 am flight while the girl had a ticket of Emirates EK 539 flight to Dubai, scheduled for departure at 4.25 am. But he never intended to fly. "Around 3.30 am, Air India ground staff approached the man and asked him to board the flight, saying he will miss it otherwise. So, he told them that he would board in 15 minutes and asked them to leave. When he did not, the officials again approached him. This time, he told them that he did not intend to board the flight," said a source.
"A senior official too came up to him. When asked repeatedly to board the flight, the man got annoyed and told the officials that he had come to the airport only to see off his girlfriend. He was taken to Air India office and made to wait there. Security personnel questioned him and after nothing suspicious was found from him, he was allowed to leave.." the source added.
