Protest brewing against shifting of domestic terminal

Thiruvananthapuram: The airport action council has decided to launch intense agitation against shifting of the domestic terminal from Shanghumugham to Chackai. As part of the agitation people of Valiyathura, Shanghumugham, Vallakadavu and Vayyamoola will take out an assembly march on July 27.

A convention called by the action council protested against breaking the promises given by chief minister Oommen Chandy on this issue. The action council members had met the chief minister, health minister V S Sivakumar and MP Shashi Tharoor for discussing the issue. The CM had assured the action council members to have a high-level meeting to discuss the issue on July 15 which was postponed in the last minute.

The action council members alleged that the very same day all the Air India flights started operating from the Chackai terminal without giving any reason. The action council formed under the leadership of Latin Catholic Church has been now supported by the Vallakadavu-Vayyamoola action council which is protesting against the extension of airport runway. They are protesting against the land acquisition as they allege that many families in the area will lose their properties.
