KOZHIKODE:In a bid to cash in on the Ramadan rush, the airlines operating from GCC countries to the state have increased their fares.
The one-way economy fare for private flights from Jeddah to Kozhikode falls between Rs 40,000 to Rs 44,000 up to July 18 while the fare for Air India Express services has gone upto Rs 25,000. The Air India Express charges Rs 27,000 from Dubai to Kozhikode while private airlines’ fares have gone up to Rs 35,000. Flights from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Damam, Muscat and Doha have also followed the suit.
The fare ranges from Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 from these cities.Meanwhile, the fare has come down from here to GCC countries.According to travel agencies, the tickets are available at Rs 12,000, Rs 9,000 and Rs 7,000 to Riyadh, Muscat and Sharjah respectively.Meanwhile, various organisations are in protest mode citing the hike as unreasonable. Kerala Pravasi Sangham general secretary K V Abdul Khader MLA said fare hike was the result of ineffective policies of Civil Aviation Ministry.
