Rath rush prompts airports to ask for more flights

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik International Airport authorities would request Air India to use two more feeder flights for international operations, encouraged by the overseas passengers during the ongoing Nabakalebara Rath Yatra festival.

The authorities want to start one flight from here to Mumbai and the other to Delhi. There is already one Air India flight taking international passengers to the national capital.

"In three days from July 17 to 19, the average number of incoming and outgoing overseas passengers is 50. It is higher than the first days' international operation (July 10) when 38 overseas passengers boarded a flight from here. Between July 11 and 16, the overseas passengers' number was 20-25," said Air India station manager Tapas Kumar Ray, adding that on July 26 and 27 they expect similar bookings as tourists would come for Bahuda Yatra and Suna Besha.
