India-Based Low-Cost Carriers Choose SITA’s AIRCOM FlightTracker

AirAsia India and Air Costa are the latest airlines to use SITA’s AIRCOM FlightTracker that culls data from multiple radars to monitor an aircraft’s position. The real-time, global flight tracking system that launched with Malaysia Airlines recently will be deployed on AirAsia India’s A320-200 fleet and Air Costa’s Embraer 170 and 190 aircraft.

In addition to the AIRCOM FlightTracker, both low-cost carriers, which have barely reached two years of operation, have employed AIRCOM Server Online and AIRCOM Datalink Services to interact with their existing operating, planning and maintenance software, allowing pilots to receive real-time weather data and communications from flight and ground crews more efficiently.

With domestic travel in India up 16.3 percent (when compared year-to-year), a competitive regional air travel market and economic growth, Captain K N Babu, CEO of Air Costa says it’s a chance for his airline to grow. “To make the very most of the opportunity, we need to be highly efficient in operations where technology will help us to achieve it,” he said. “SITA OnAir provides us with ubiquitous coverage and the right tools to make sure we optimize our operations.”
