Gaya: Very old and virtually discardable planes flown on the Gaya-Delhi
route make Gaya air travellers rue their lot. Not only that, daily
flights are limited to the Oct-March tourist season. In the off season
Air India operates thrice a weak flight between Gaya and Delhi. Of late
some private operators are reported to have shown interest but this
interest is yet to proceed beyond the conception stage.
According to air users, Air India flies very old planes, usually more than 25 years old planes on the Gaya-Delhi route. The virtually discardable planes are generally flown half load as these nearly antique flying machines can not fly on full load. Planes with 160 passenger capacity fly with less than 100 passengers as the planes can not take more load.
Sanjay Sahay, a frequent air traveller on the Gaya-Delhi route said that metal fatigue is very apparent on these planes and flying risk goes up. There have been instances of doors not opening and the planes over shooting the landing area. This too when the revenue potential and seat occupancy of the route was much better as compared to several other routes.
