Delhi airport's terminal 1D stares at stampede

Delhi airport's terminal 1D is in a mess. There is a stampede-like situation every morning during peak hours as 8,000-10,000 passengers arrive on an average, and there are only 200 chairs at the airport, apart from the ones at the shops. This means for every 50 passengers there is one seat.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, who man the airport, say they have raised the issue with the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) at least a dozen times in
the past four months but nothing has been done so far. And the situation is going to get worse with festivals and fog coming soon when footfall will increase by 50 per cent at the least.

CISF and DIAL officials met aviation secretary Rajeev Nayan Choubey in the last week of August, where the problem of sitting arrangements was brought up. However, no solution came up. After the meeting with DIAL and CISF, Choubey blamed 'poor planning' for the mess at 1D. He lashed out at DIAL officials after taking a round of the terminal and seeing for himself how bad the situation is on the ground.
"The aviation secretary was furious after taking a round of the terminal. He blamed poor planning for the acute shortage of sitting space at the airport," a senior airport official told Mail Today. On the 5th of October, when DIAL and CISF officials met Choubey again for a joint presentation, the issue of limited sitting arrangements was completely skipped. At this meeting, DIAL suggested infrastructural changes like doubling the number of entry gates at the airport and getting more X-ray machines.
