Kochi: Get ready to savour the airborne sight of the idyllic and
tropical archipelago of 36 atolls and coral reefs in the Lakshadweep Sea
and an exhilarating ride - and water landing - in a seaplane. The
much-touted ambitious seaplane project, which ran into rough weather a
number of times in the past following protests from the local
fisherfolk, is finally set to take wings with the Kochi-based firm
‘Seabird Seaplane Private Ltd’, an initiative of two technocrats and
financially supported by an associate company of INKEL Limited, gearing
up to launch the service in two months from Cochin International
Airport.
Speaking to Express, Chinson P, the spokesperson of the firm, said that, ‘’we are expecting to launch the service in one-and-a-half months as ‘Quest Kodiak 100 Amphibian’, the first amphibian aircraft purchased by the company from the US and customised to suit Indian conditions, has arrived at Cochin International Airport the other day. The second aircraft purchased by the company which is now being subjected to some special modifications in the US for cruise operations will touch down here within one-and-a-half months.’’
