New Delhi: An auto-rickshaw driver, arrested for acting as a tout at the
domestic airport here, has been held guilty by a Delhi court which said
such illegal activities show "lack of effective policing" and bring bad
name to the country.
The court, however, did not sentence him to jail and imposed a fine of Rs 2,500 on him considering that he was poor and had shown remorse for his act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Pankaj Sharma held Prashant Kumar guilty while observing that it is common that outside the arrival hall at airport, several "unscrupulous" auto and cab drivers lure passengers with promise of cheap hotel, low fare and other benefits and usually misbehave with passengers.
"The absence of adequate police officials outside arrival hall gives encouragement to these unlawful activities by these law breakers.... These illegal activities also show lack of effective policing.
