New Delhi: In a push to the Modi government's initiative to boost ties
with Africa, the civil aviation ministry has agreed to increase air
connectivity with Kenya and Ethiopia, while conceding Oman's
long-pending demand for an increase in bilateral entitlements for air
services.
These measures were agreed upon at International Civil Aviation Negotiations 2015 held last month, the ministry announced on Thursday. "During these negotiations memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with Finland,Kazakhstan, Kenya, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Oman and Ethiopia," it said in a press release.
India has allowed Oman an additional 5,131 seats, taking the total capacity entitlements from 16,018 seats per week to 21,149 seats per week for both sides. This is the first time that the Modi government has agreed for an increase in bilateral entitlements for air services, which had been shrouded in corruption allegations during the term of the Manmohan Singh government.
